To me, Thomas Ligotti's work is a good demonstration of how horror is most effective in small doses. These illustrated adaptions of a handful of his stories haul you in but don't give you enough time to be acclimated (and therefore desensitized to) the premise before bringing things to an abrupt (anti) resolution. Ligotti is one of the modern masters of weirdness and the artwork ranges from decent to downright spooky. Interesting stuff.

A waste of money.
Maybe it was my fault, but I thought it was a book by the author since it came up in a search for his name specifically. Instead, it is a comic book style book BASED on the author's writings. Not what I wanted.
Waste of money. BIG waste of money.
This was my frist ever graphic novel. I didnt know that at first, but was very plesently surprised. Drawing is excelent. Come from great storys, will defanatly buy the second vol.
I have not read the original stories so I cannot comment on those or this as an adaption of those, but as a stand alone graphic novel, this was very entertaining and appropriately nightmarish. I was hoping for something a little more in-depth, but the stories are well written and the illustrations adapted very well to the theme. If you love Lovecraft, King, or other masters of horror, I imagine this will be well to your liking.
To me, Ligotti's "stories" have always revolved around ideas, moods and suggestiveness, with an evocative use of language. Not the best combination for graphic storytelling. Still, these adaptations are impressive, at least in their artwork and their audacity!

The narratives are certainly watered downed, naturally. One of the things that has always intrigued me about H. P. Lovecraft and similar writers is their use of suggestion. This allows the reader to fill in many of his/her own blanks, as many critics have observed. No two readers will read the same story the same way when filling in those blanks. I find Ligotti to be in that fine tradition, so I can't recommend this volume too highly. It is interesting to see how at least one or two persons filled in those blanks, however (the writer and illustrator).
Fantastice book! Great Price!
